Clover.GUI not available thru Eclipse

Hello,
I’d like to evaluate Clover.GUI. I’ve followed your step by step guide: http://www.cloveretl.org/download/clover-gui/installation-guide/#eclipse34 but after having input:

Location: http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update/

into the proper dialog I get this error:

No repository found at http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update
  Error reading update site http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update.
Server redirected too many times (20)

My Eclipse version is 3.4.1. I’m stuck on this since yesterday, any suggestion would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Fabio

Hi,
we’ve already seen such a problem which was caused by the client’s local network configuration (proxy etc.). Can you try to download from the eval update site from some other network?
Alternatively you can try to enable the classic update manager in Eclipse. You can find it in Preferences->General->Capabilities->Classic Update.

Hopefully this helps,
Jaro

Hello, and thanks for your answer. Yes, I’m behind a proxy, also if Eclipse is aware of my account params and (right now) works properly with other repositories. I will try on a different (“proxi-ed”, too) network, next week.

The classic update fails, before prompting for any login, with this error:

Network connection problems encountered during search.
  Unable to access "http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update/".
Unable to access site: "http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update/" [Server returned HTTP response code: "401 Authorization Required" for URL: http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update/.]
Server returned HTTP response code: "401 Authorization Required" for URL: http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update/.

Also as information for you or for anyone else experiencing my problems: in Eclipse 3.4 the Window > Preferences > General > Capabilities option doesn’t exist. I found the valuable solution here: http://forums.aptana.com/viewtopic.php?p=22981:

That is due to the fact that the Eclipse SDK is needed to display and use that option. You can download it from the software updates manager. Once you have it, you can enable the “Classic Update” option […]

I hope download your solution in few days.

bye!

Hi All,

I have encountered this problem as well… for some reason Eclipse couldn’t authenticate to the repository. I was getting “Server redirected too many times”, as well as a couple of other issues.

The workaround was this…

Go to the http://www.clovergui.net/eval-update page in a browser.

I was able to authenticate with the username/password combo (I don’t know why eclipse couldn’t - and got sick of trying).

Download all of the files into a directory, keeping the directory structure as you find it in the repo.

Add a new site, and instead of using the URL, select ‘local’.

Browse to the site.xml file and select it.

It will now install the plugins as though you had connected to the repo online.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
matt.
